Transport - On the Road and in the Air
Visit our collection of operating tramcars covering 120 years of steam, cable & electrical tram traction once all running in major NZ cities and in Melbourne, Australia. Initially horse buses operated throughout Auckland in the late 19th century in competition with the horse tramway, then, with the invention of the steam, petrol & diesel engines, reliable vehicles served outlining areas of the district not served by the tramways from the 1920s. The flexibility of buses, not requiring any more infrastructure than roads, has been their ultimate success.
The Aviation Collection at Keith Park Memorial Park displays aircraft which have taken NZ'ers into battle through history - it includes a WW2 Avro Lancaster Bomber and the only Solent Mark IV Flying Boat in the world. |
